Job Search Tips for Nurses

The COVID-19 pandemic has thrown the healthcare field’s job market for a loop. Whether you’re a graduate of the class of 2020 or a nurse with years of experience, it’s a tricky time to be searching for a job in the healthcare field. Here are a few tips to help you navigate things no matter the stage of your career.

Brush Up Your Resume and Cover Letter

It never hurts to make sure your resume and cover letter are up-to-date and polished. Include your relevant experience and qualifications, and get rid of things that don’t service your ultimate goal. Tailor your resume to the specific job you’re applying for so that you stand the greatest chance of hearing back.

Assess Your Particular Skillset and Qualifications

Be sure to think about where you fit in within the healthcare field. What particular skills and qualifications do you have? You should be seeking out opportunities that let you capitalize on those strengths. Not only will you be able to shine in the interview, you stand a much higher chance of securing the position because your skills and qualifications align more precisely with the job.

Consider Your Online Presence

When was the last time you updated your LinkedIn profile? It should match your resume in terms of experience and skills. And don’t forget to take a look at your other social media sites to make sure there’s nothing potentially compromising in view of the public. Many employers will take the time to research your online presence – make sure it says something good about you.

Use Your Professional Network

Sometimes, the best job opportunities aren’t found on a job board. Using your professional network is often the best way to find a new position – be sure to stay in touch with your supervisors, peers, professors, and others in your field, because you just never know when one of those connections will pay off. And remember that networking goes both ways. If you can support someone else in their job search, do it.

Partner With a Recruiter

Recruiters often have exclusive access to job openings that aren’t publicly available on the major hiring sites. And they can help you tailor your resume and cover letter, prepare for interviews, and much more. Consider partnering with a recruiter to help you in your job search – after all, it’s their job to match excellent candidates with positions they deserve!
