Celebrated every March, Women’s History Month serves as a reminder of all the contributions females make to society. Plus, these ladies have some fantastic advice too. Here are five of our favorite motivational quotes from women in healthcare.

Born into a wealthy family in 1820, Florence Nightingale defied the expectations of the time to pursue nursing. Throughout her career, Nightingale worked tirelessly to improve conditions in hospitals. Widely regarded as the founder of modern nursing, Nightingale understood the importance of no-nonsense determination.
“I shall never do a man’s work for less than a man’s pay,”
~ Clara Barton
A pioneering nurse during the Civil War, Clara Barton founded the American Red Cross. Barton believed in and fought for equal human rights. Even in the late 1800s, she challenged pay inequalities between women and men. Unfortunately, over one hundred and fifty years later, the gender pay gap persists. According to CNBC, in 2019, women earned 79 cents for every dollar men made.

~ Marie Curie
Marie Curie was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize and the first person to win the award twice. Curie discovered radioactivity, and, together with her husband Pierre, the radioactive elements polonium and radium. She also championed the development of X-rays. Although Curie’s death was believed to be caused by prolonged exposure to radiation, she spent her life celebrating the wonders of science.

Donna Cardillo, RN, known as the Career Guru for Nurses, reminds us how important nurses are! And nursing continues to be a predominantly female profession. In 2019, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported 89% of registered nurses were women.

~ Elizabeth Blackwell
Elizabeth Blackwell graduated from medical school in 1849 and became the first woman doctor in modern times. Despite widespread opposition, she finished first in her class and later created a medical school for women. Blackwell encourages all healthcare professionals to embark on a fascinating pioneer journey. After all, medical knowledge is constantly evolving.
