Where Do Assisted Living Nurses Work?
As the name suggests, assisted living nurses work in assisted living or long-term care facilities. These residences may house senior citizens or adults with physical or mental disabilities. The goal of these facilities is to provide a home-like setting for those who cannot or choose not to live independently.
What Are Typical Hours for an Assisted Living Nurse?
Since assisted living facilities operate 24/7 including holidays, this usually isn’t a nine to five job. Assisted living nurses may work day shifts, swing shifts, or night shifts. Full-time nurses may log five eight-hour shifts, three twelve-hour shifts or a combination of the two.
What Duties Does an Assisted Living Nurse Perform?
Assisted living nurses may be registered nurses (RNs), licensed practical nurses (LPNs), certified nursing assistants (CNAs), or even nurse practitioners (NPs). All of these nurses care for patients. However specific duties vary based on positions. For example, an RN may monitor patients’ health, manage medications, and coordinate healthcare plans. Whereas CNAs often focus on assisting patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as toileting, bathing, and personal grooming.

7:00 a.m. – 7:30 a.m. – Check in with Night Crew / Review Patient Files
7:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. – Morning Rounds & Breakfast – Prepare Patients for Their Day
11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. – Assist with Lunch and Medications
1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. – Complete Paperwork / Help with Afternoon Activities
5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. – Assist with Dinner and Medications
6:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. – Update Night Crew on Any Changes
